| WHAT IS STREAMING? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There are two ways to view media (such as video, audio, animations, etc) on the Internet and that’s through downloading and streaming. With streaming, the end user can start watching the file almost as soon as it begins downloading. The content is played as it arrives, and is usually not stored on your computer. It is temporarily stored (buffering) on your hard drive in limited segments of streamed information so as to ensure continuous play. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| When you download a file, the entire file is saved on your computer (usually in a temporary folder), which you then open and view. Streaming avoids the need to copy and store a complete file before playback can begin. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
During the 2006 Detroit Mayoral debate we streamed the event live as it was being broadcast on television. Afterwards, both candidates walked to separate locations where students had viewed the debates to field their questions.
